This drone training course is for operators whose General Visual Line of Sight (GVC) Certificate is within six months of its expiry date and need to renew to continue to fly legally in the Specific Category.

GVC Renewal: Why You Need To Renew
Stay compliant and safe
The GVC is a fundamental component of flying legally within the Specific Category. With the certificate only being valid for five years, we advise operators to think about renewing around 6 months before expiry.
Renewing your GVC isn't just about ticking a box. It is about ensuring you:
Remain compliant with the UK CAA regulations.
Retain access to specific flying privileges and ensure a smooth continuation of your operations.
Stay updated on the latest regulatory changes, airspace rules, and safety protocols.
Enhance safety standards by refreshing your theory knowledge - as well as practical skills if you haven't met the currency requirements.
Avoid costly requalification processes. The renewal course is a more efficient process, but letting your GVC lapse means you need to sit a new GVC course and will have to repeat the entire learning process. This is more expensive than sitting a renewal course and more time-intensive, which could lead to damaging downtime while you try to secure a new GVC.

Streamlined renewal process
Submit ID and Evidence: You will be uploaded to the course. Before you sit your theory exam will you need to upload proof of ID; current GVC certificate that has not expired; valid Flyer ID; and download your GVC Renewal Logbook, which is complete and shows flight currency with supporting evidence.
Competency Requirements: The required competency is two hours of flight within the last three months. If you cannot prove that you have completed the required flight currency requirements, you can still sit the theory exam, but you must then undertake a Practical Flight Assessment at one of our UK flight venues.
Remote Theory Exam: After successful enrollment and validation of meeting the currency requirements, you can book and sit the remote theory exam, sat via webcam. There is no requirement to complete the theory learning modules beforehand. You will only need to do this should you fail the examination on your first go. You have 40 minutes to complete the exam, compromising 40 multiple-choice questions. The pass mark is 75%.
Online Learning: To refresh your knowledge before the examination, access on-demand and newly-updated online learning materials through the heliguy™ Learning Management System. Live webchat support from heliguy™ in-house instructors is also available from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.
Drone Operations Manual: You will likely have a valid Operations Manual in place - in which case, there is no need to do anything with this. However, if you do need to update your manual, we have an Operations Manual generator to streamline this process.
GVC Renewal: Upon passing, you will be issued with your renewed GVC, valid for the next five years.
