What do I need to renew my A2 CofC?

After booking your A2 CofC Renewal with us, you will be given access to the online A2 CofC Renewal course. Before you can sit your theory examination, you will be required to submit: Proof of identification, ie a copy of a valid driving license, passport, warrant card etc. Valid A2 CofC Certificate - which has not expired. Valid Flyer ID. Completed A2 CofC Practical Flight Declaration, and meet the currency requirement - as set out by the UK CAA - of two hours of flight time over the last three months. Please note, if you cannot provide currency and evidence, and if you haven't completed the Practical Flight Declaration, you cannot sit the theory exam.

I was an A2 CofC holder but my certificate has now expired? Can I sit the renewal course?

No. If your A2 CofC certificate has expired, you can not sit the renewal course and will need to complete a full, standard A2 CofC course.

When is the minimum time before renewal that I can sit the course?

We recommend that you renew or begin to think about renewing your A2 CofC around 6 months before it expires.

What happens if my A2 CofC expires during the time I am sitting the A2 CofC Renewal course?

Your A2 CofC certificate can expire during the A2 CofC Renewal course - as long as the course was purchased and started before the expiry date. If this happens, you should not fly under the provisions of the certificate until you have passed the course and been re-issued with a new A2 CofC certificate.

What happens if I fail the A2 CofC theoretical examination?

If you fail the theory exam, you must work through the theory content on the heliguy™ Learning Management System and re-do a different theory assessment. There is not an extra charge for this.

Holding a valid A2 CofC is essential for operating legally within the Open Category. Since the certificate expires after five years, we recommend that you begin the renewal process, or at least start to think about it, up to six months before it runs out.

A2 CofC Renewal: Course delivery

Streamlined pathway to renewing your certificate

The A2 CofC Renewal is a multi-part process, and heliguy™ will support you throughout.

Submit ID and Evidence: You will be uploaded to the course. Before you sit your theory exam you will need to upload proof of ID; current A2 CofC certificate that has not expired; valid Flyer ID; complete the Practical Flight Declaration, and show you have flight currency of 2 hours within the last 3 months.
Competency Requirements: If you do not complete the Practical Flight Declaration or if you do not have the desired competency, you can not progress to the theory examination.
Remote Theory Exam: After successful enrollment, you can book and sit the remote theory exam, sat via webcam. There is no requirement to complete the theory learning modules beforehand. You will only need to do this should you fail the examination on your first go. You have 75 minutes to complete the exam, comprising 30 multiple-choice questions. The pass mark is 75%.
Online Learning: To refresh your knowledge before the examination, access on-demand and newly-updated online learning materials through the heliguy™ Learning Management System. Live webchat support from heliguy™ in-house instructors is also available from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.
A2 CofC Renewal: Upon passing, you will be issued with your renewed A2 CofC, valid for the next five years.
