DJI Matrice 4E creates stunning heritage model
Check out the 3D modelling capabilities of the DJI M4E. A mix of automated and manual data capture helped build this detailed digital recreation of Ryhope Engines Museum.
This video shows the impressive modelling capabilities of the DJI Matrice 4E.
The digitisation of the historic Ryhope Engines Museum was created through a mix of automated and manual data capture.
Our geospatial team utilised Smart 3D Capture to map the attraction's main building. 5,091 photos were collected during two automated missions, lasting a total of 32 minutes. The drone flew 8 metres away from the structure.
Smart 3D Capture is a mode which streamlines 3D modelling tasks, using a rough point cloud to build a precise and automated flight route for detailed digital-asset creation.
To gather data for the chimney, the team conducted some manual photogrammetry and also deployed Orbit mode, enabling the drone to automatically fly around a selected PinPoint in a circle.
This video shows the flight paths of the Smart 3D Capture missions, as well as some of the manual and Orbit flights.
The model - with a GSD of 0.432cm per pixel - took 23 hours to process in DJI Terra. The DJI Matrice 4E comes with a free 12-month DJI Terra licence.
The video of the model was created in ArcGIS Pro.
Thank you to the Ryhope Engines Trust for allowing us to collect data at the museum.
