CAA Publishes CAP722L: Requirements for UAS Operator Modifications

CAA explains what changes drone operators can make after getting approval.

The CAA has released the first edition of CAP722L, offering clear, practical guidance for drone operators looking to make changes to their approved operations after receiving an Operational Authorisation (OA) via the UK SORA process.

The document helps operators understand which modifications require a technical update to their OA and which do not. It supports compliance with Assimilated Regulation (EU) 2019/947 UAS.SPEC.030(2), which states that any significant change to a drone operation must be followed by an OA update request.

CAP722L outlines how to assess whether a modification is considered significant and provides a step-by-step process to follow.

To assist with this, the CAA has also published a UAS Modification Assessment Checklist, designed to be used alongside CAP722L to help operators stay compliant and make informed decisions. This guidance is essential reading for any UAS operator planning to update, expand, or adjust their operational scope.
